A Quick Breathing Technique for Overwhelm
Share
Sometimes the fastest way back to yourself is through your breath.
When everything feels like too much — the noise, the list, the pressure — your nervous system needs a signal that it's safe to slow down. This simple technique takes less than two minutes and you can do it anywhere.
Try This: Box Breathing
Box breathing is used by everyone from therapists to Navy SEALs because it works. Here's how:
- Inhale slowly for 4 counts
- Hold for 4 counts
- Exhale slowly for 4 counts
- Hold for 4 counts
Repeat 3–4 times. That's it.
Why It Works
When you extend your exhale and pause your breath, you activate your parasympathetic nervous system — the part of you that knows how to rest. Your heart rate slows. Your shoulders drop. The fog starts to lift.
A Gentle Reminder
You don't have to earn your calm. It's already in you — sometimes it just needs an invitation.
